Cheddar with caramelised onion

366 Days of Cheese
As something with jalapeños in the title this is pretty tame! Went nicely in a pasta dish for tea with some smoked salmon.
Made by Truckle Bros and found in Morrisons. Comes in a nice wax coat and is very good flavoured cheese with chewy bits of onion, chewy in a good way! I have gone back for seconds!
The last of the little Castellos, pleasant little number, not as peppery as the last pepper cheese, but nice and creamy. Went well with a small Highland Park.
I was intrigued by the idea of this cheese, wondering what the charcoal would add. So first off it is a bit tangy, then it is a bit sweaty, and finishes with a grittyness.
This is not going to win Feb cheese of the month, in fact I am not going to eat it again.
It is great to have completed one month of cheese and I have been asked if I have a favourite so far, so I am going to try and pick one each month. January cheese of the month was #thornbymoor Crofton, absolutely lovely sheep’s milk cheese, from Cumbria.
Lunch at the pub today, Eden Sunset is similar to a mild cheddar, it is a bit greasy when at room temp. Not my fav Cumbrian cheese.
Fairly hard smooth cheese with a slightly granular texture. A light grassy tang, leaves a rather nice fresh mouth feel. I like this , quite a lot. Gets a smiley sheep’s face from me.
Crumbly cheese, similar to Lancashire but with a hint of aging. Made it into a cheese and onion pie with Katsu sauce as a base for the onions.
Bought from Melville Tyson’s this cheese is hard textured with quite a mild flavour, went well when toasted on homemade granary, coriander cranberry and feta bread. Along with leek and potato soup finished with the last of the pepper cheddar cheese.
Ideal filling for a baked potato, nice flavour not very spicy, melted so would be good on toast too.
